Wonderful Wonder Woman

So you have stumbled across yet another blog post about Wonder Woman. I know I am a little late to the game, but I can't help myself.

If you know me then you probably know that I am not a huge fan of superhero movies because all of the fight scenes make me squirm and seem extraneous. With all of that being said I absolutely loved Wonder Woman! I heard quite a lot of positive reviews especially by women and I was interested to see what all of the hype was about. Here are my thoughts:

I understood how some women could walk out feeling like they could take down another person with their bare hands ( I mean did you see that scene on the beach of the Themyscira where the Amazons take down the Germans). I, however, didn't leave feeling that way. I felt super empowered, but not physically empowered, but emotionally empowered.

During my second viewing of the movie (yes, I saw it twice) I realized why.  Diana experiences so many emotions from wonder at seeing her first snowfall to excitement at seeing the wonder woman gear to anger at the generals when she realizes that they aren't standing on the front lines with their men to sorrow at the loss of her love. She doesn't let these emotions bog her down; she uses them as a springboard to propel her towards her goal of fighting for truth and justice. It was empowering to see Diana feel something and take a moment to feel those emotions and then is able to use them as a means to carry on. I feel like people, myself included, get stuck in certain emotions and have a hard time moving forward from them. It was nice to see someone (especially a woman) really use her emotions in a positive way.

So thank you everyone that worked on Wonder Woman for making a movie that we might not deserve, but we definitely needed.
