So you have stumbled across yet another blog post about Wonder Woman. I know I am a little late to the game, but I can't help myself. If you know me then you probably know that I am not a huge fan of superhero movies because all of the fight scenes make me squirm and seem extraneous. With all of that being said I absolutely loved Wonder Woman! I heard quite a lot of positive reviews especially by women and I was interested to see what all of the hype was about. Here are my thoughts: I understood how some women could walk out feeling like they could take down another person with their bare hands ( I mean did you see that scene on the beach of the Themyscira where the Amazons take down the Germans). I, however, didn't leave feeling that way. I felt super empowered, but not physically empowered, but emotionally empowered. There are many perks to living in on-campus housing while in college; shorter commute to classes, easy access to the dining hall and living among your friends and peers. One of the things that can be a downside is the interior of the dorm. The walls are all the same color, the floors are a weird laminate and there is usually only one window so there is very little natural lighting. I was at home one weekend and decided to print off pictures of my friends, family, and my time abroad in England. I feel like the theme of my posts so far has been how rough 2016 was and how I weathered it. This is going to be another one of those posts. This post is going to focus on one of the best things that have come out of this year; my time volunteering at the Grounds Bookstore and Cafe (or the Grounds for short). The Grounds was established in 2012 in Mecklenburg Community Church. One of the things that make the Grounds special is that almost everyone that works at the grounds is a volunteer. All of the profits from the grounds go to ministries both local and global.  When I moved home in March of 2016 my parents had been attending Meck for a while and had joined a small group. One Sunday Alexis Dyre, who runs the Grounds, announced that they were looking for new volunteers.     Where has the year gone? I can't believe I am mere minutes away from a whole new year! Most people are out in sparkly dresses and nice shirts and pants with a foil headband/ hat proclaiming "Happy New Years!".  I, however, am not most people. I am curled up on my couch in jeans and my grounds coffee shirt watching "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" on FreeForm  with a glass of wine by myself. I am not mad about any of that. Would I have had fun at a party, yes! But I didn't have one to attend which is perfectly fine.
